Femur Fracture and Recovery

Physical therapy can help you get back to your life and the things you love in so many ways.

On our blog, we love to celebrate this by sharing success stories straight from our patients (with their permission, of course!). Today, please enjoy Jerry’s story and how we helped him reach his goals of standing on his own again and recovering from his femur fracture.

About Jerry

Jerry originally came to us after a fall and fracturing his femur. He originally came to us using a rolling walker for ambulation. He eventually worked his way up to using no assistive device while walking and has improved his endurance and strength, riding his bike at home daily. Jerry and his wife Libby enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as their Collie’s.

Our goals for Jerry’s physical therapy treatment

In listening to Jerry’s goals, Jerry’s PT, Hunter, put together a treatment plan that helped him:

  • Work to walk with a single-point cane when needed

  • Improve hip strength and endurance

  • Ability to stand on his own with minimal sway or loss of balance

Here’s what Jerry shares about reaching his goals through physical therapy at NCCPT.

What was your initial goal when you first came to physical therapy?

“I want to be able to walk without the assistance of a cane.”

How did your physical therapist help you succeed in reaching your goal?

“I am now able to walk without the assistance of a cane. I am able to do what I want for an 86-year-old guy. I feel confident to walk again.”

We were so glad to help Jerry walk with no assistance again. He is one of our many patients that we’ve partnered with in the past 10+ years of our clinic.
